New ADrive Desktop Makes Backup Easy


ADrive Desktop officially launched! ADrive Desktop is a desktop application that is compatible with all major operating systems. ADrive Desktop allows a customer to upload, download, and schedule jobs to backup files/folders from their computer to their ADrive account. This feature gives users access to their ADrive account directly from their desktop. ADrive Desktop is available to our Signature and Premium customers and ADrive is offering a FREE 14-Day trial to Basic account holders and new users.

Please note that the ADrive Backup Client will no longer be supported in favor of ADrive Desktop. We thank our basic account holders and beta users for testing the ADrive Backup Client and invite them to try ADrive Desktop and our Signature and Premium services today.

Changes in Service to Basic Accounts


ADrive wants to inform its Basic account holders of service changes that relate to free services. These changes will improve speed and service for our Signature, Premium and Enterprise level customers and free Basic users alike. The following changes have been implemented or will be implemented on the dates listed below:

Concurrent Downloads Limited - The purpose of reducing the amount of concurrent downloads to Basic user's public files is to attempt to reduce the amount of bandwidth consumed by free public file sharing. Basic users can still share files, but only 5 downloads of a single file can be done at the same time. This is currently in place, as of our last release.

1 TB File Sharing Limit - After serving several exabytes of public file data over the lifetime of our service, we have decided that the cost for hosting files at its current level of service is not scalable to the costs associated with it. Instead of shutting off the public file service for Basic users completely, we have decided to attempt to reduce the amount of traffic by imposing a 1 TB File Sharing Bandwidth Limit. This will effect very few users by our calculations. This change will take place on February 28, 2009.

Public File Expiration – Public files shared by our free users will expire 14 days after they were originally shared. You will be able to re-share these files, although the links will change. Once again, we are trying to improve service for our customers and Basic users alike. This will be put into effect on February 28, 2009.

ADrive offers File Transfer Protocol (FTP)

ADrive™, the only company offering 50GB of free online storage, announces the release of File Transfer Protocol (FTP) services. ADrive’s new FTP offering is available to Signature and Premium customers through their existing accounts, and new users can try this new service by signing up for a free, 14-Day trial account. Supporting a majority of FTP clients, ADrive’s FTP services allow customers to transfer and manage their files without having to log into a web interface, using any operating system environment that supports FTP.

Access to ADrive’s FTP server opens up a world of options for Signature and Premium users to transfer files to and from any location in the world using 3rd-Party FTP applications. ADrive customers can now use the new FTP services for drive mapping, using preferred backup software to backup files, mobile access to files, and much more. ADrive’s FTP server can also be accessed using secure FTP to provide data encryption during transport.

ADrive has replaced the ADrive Backup Client with an all new and improved backup client developed with Adobe AIR called ADrive Desktop. Ongoing Unplanned Maintenance for Some Basic (Free) Accounts

We sincerely apologize, but some accounts are currently undergoing unplanned maintenance. We were unable to notify our users as this problem was unexpected. Only Basic free accounts on one particular storage system are affected by this maintenance. We have a few sys admins working around the clock on to restore these free services. No data has been lost or corrupted. We are simply running out of bandwidth on one particular storage system, and allowing all users on this system would crash it. ADrive Version 1.0 Release Tonight!

The ADrive Team has been working around the clock to release our version 1.0. Our scheduled release will take place tonight. Once again, we will need your cooperation while we upgrade our systems, as we will require another maintenance window of a few hours starting on July 1, 2008 at 10pm PDT. During this time, you will not be able to access your ADrive account. Once we have completed our upgrade, ADrive will be back online and you can continue to enjoy all the ADrive features.

The release of ADrive version 1.0 will not affect your current account or files in anyway; users will still enjoy 50GB of free online storage. As an added feature, all users will be able to download the ADrive Backup Client to their desktop for free. Users will also have the option of upgrading to either our Signature or Premium accounts. These paid plans offer SSL encryption for all data transfers, WebDAV, multiple concurrent sessions, and 24/7 support among other features.

Version 1.0 Storage Plan Options

ADrive's version 1.0 release is approaching fast. Many users have asked for more storage and we have listened intently.

With the release of v1.0, users will have the option of upgrading from a free account to one of our paid accounts. Our Basic Plan will remain free and offers 50GB of storage with basic service features. Our Signature Plan will offer users 50GB of storage plus all the enhanced features mentioned in our May 1, 2008 update. Our Premium Plan has 5 storage opti ons. A new version of ADrive has been released!
